The BBC is investigating how the fourth season finale of Sherlock was leaked on-line, after a Russian-language model of the episode was illegally uploaded forward of transmission.

A leaked model of His Last Drawback featured a brief continuity announcement that recognized it as broadcast by Russian state-owned Channel One. It appeared on-line on Saturday.

After the leaked episode began circulating on-line, the BBC tweeted:

The present's producer Sue Vertue confirmed the leak originated in Russia and appealed customers to not share it:

The BBC later confirmed in a press release that it's conducting an investigation into the leak.

"BBC Worldwide takes breaches of our stringent content material safety protocols very significantly and we now have initiated a full investigation into how this leak has occurred," it stated.

Mashable understands that the British broadcaster is in touch with Channel One in Russia to know what has occurred. It'll make a press release as soon as the inquiries are concluded.

Many UK newspapers prompt the hack might have political motives. The Daily Telegraph reported claims that the Kremlin was angered by a current choice to increase the BBC World Service's Russian language output.

In October, a spokeswoman for Russia's overseas ministry promised tit-for-tat retaliation towards British media after NatWest tried to shut financial institution accounts linked to RT, Russia's English-language broadcaster.

“Our stance is simple: we'll stick up for our personal,"  Maria Zakharova stated. "They [Britain] will get nearly as good as they provide."
