A new showrunner is in place for the second set of Lore tales, with Sean Crouch of Numbers and Fox series The Exorcist arriving in the stead of Glen Morgan (X-Files).

The show’s first season was narrated by Aaron Mahnke, who created the original 2015 podcast.

With its roots in historical folktales, the twice-monthly audio drama went on to scoop two successive “Best of” iTunes awards.

Season two will feature new tales from the podcast as well as original stories not yet available in podcast form, according to Amazon, while retaining a hallmark blend of narration, archive footage and animation to complement the filmed segments.

Guest stars for October 2017’s season one included Colm Feore (Thor), Adam Goldberg (Fargo), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2), Holland Roden (the Teen Wolf series), Kristin Bauer van Straten (True Blood), Kristen Cloke (Final Destination), as well as Bethany Anne Lind and Cassady McClincy (Ozark).

Prolific producer Gale Ann Hurd of The Walking Dead TV series came on board to help bring it to the screen and she remains in place, as do Ben Silverman (The Office, Ugly Betty) and Howard T. Owens (Jackie, Planet of the Apps).

Mahnke has already branched out again with a three-book series that likewise began in October 2017.

“Customers loved the first season of Lore for its unique blend of narrative and documentary storytelling, and we’re excited to give them another season of this suspenseful hybrid series,” said Amazon’s Heather Schuster.

Other upcoming TV series adapted from successful podcasts include ABC’s March 2018 Alex, Inc., based on Start Up and featuring Zach Braff as a family man who quits his job to try and make a career out of podcasting, and Amazon’s secret agent retirement thriller Homecoming, based on the audio drama of the same name, with Julia Roberts, Stephan James and Bobby Cannavale. It is also expected sometime during 2018. — AFP-Relaxnews
